Xavier BARTHE (1964)

Xavier BARTHE was born in 1967 in Dakar. He keeps from his childhood memories of West Africa but also of the Caribbean where he began his career as a plastic artist, almost twenty five years ago.

He then established his practice on poor materials, recovery, wood, metal, cardboard are an integral part of his work and his way of thinking about life and the relationship with the environment.

He realizes both painting and sculpture, with a sense of poetry that commands admiration. His works are playful, invigorating, ironic and poetic without ever being cutthroat. "Maker of things" as he likes to describe himself, he is also a maker of dreams that leads us into a world bathed by the sea, the sweetness, where melancholy sometimes comes.

His installations are made to move, to play with the wind, the light, the shadows and their environment.

Few artists like Xavier Barthe give as much the desire to create, to play with matter, to laugh with the wind.
