Christophe MARTIN

Christophe MARTIN (1966-)

Christophe Martin is a self-taught artist born in 1966.

He spent his youth in Africa until the age of 15 and began painting as soon as he returned to Europe, in 1983.

Installed in Charente in 2012, he exhibits regularly in galleries in the West.

His work is marked by a strong attraction for art brut.

He adopted Robert Filiou's maxim "Art is what makes life more interesting". And without question his art makes our life more interesting.

When he paints, on the ground, movement marks the canvas, the gesture is the witness of the spirit, of the solitude of being.

His palette seems poor but it is rich in nuances. Follower of black, he knows how to make it bright, almost transparent. Follower of the material, he scarifies some of his paintings, inserts paper, metal or wood in the manner of an Antoni Tapiès. The signs that he sows repeatedly on his canvases, grids, bulbs, colored filaments are as many witnesses to the state of mind of an artist that we feel Symbolist. These are all milestones on the path of wandering, of thought that escapes and wanders.

For Christophe Martin, "Art is in doing"
